The Eastern Cyclo Cross League runs from September to February, covering the counties Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex, Cambridgeshire, Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire. Joining the League is great value, though you don't have to join to ride the events. The cost for the 2021-22 season remains at £15 for seniors, £11 for juniors, £8 for youths, and £2 for under-12s, plus a £1 admin charge to British Cycling for on-line entry. As a league member you get the opportunity for a discount on the entry fee for each league race if you enter in advance, news updates, and of course, you're eligible for league points. The league offers prizes for the top riders at the end of the season in various categories: senior, veteran, junior, women, youth and under 12, 10 and 8. League placings are determined by your best finishing positions in about two thirds of the league races. The league honours its old friend, the late Ivan Jeckell by awarding the Ivan Jeckell Trophy each year to the best club or team. Cyclo cross is suitable for experienced racers and novices alike. New faces are always welcome. If you're a beginner, take a look at our guide for people who are new to cyclo-cross. For league races just bring your bike and helmet and sign on - mountain bikes are allowed. For other events different rules may apply - if in doubt, check with the race organiser. |
You can join us at our EasternCross Facebook group. It's open to league members and friends only, so you'll be told you need to "Ask to join" when you follow that link. If you think it's likely that we won't recognise you from your Facebook account, please email facebook@easterncross.org.uk. |

2 Sep 22: We've tweaked the way grid positions are calculated.
The basic idea remains the same as it was, but now we only take results into account from the current season and the previous two full seasons.
That means that if you haven't ridden an Eastern race in the last two years, you won't automatically get a grid position.
You can speak to a commissaire on the day if you think you deserve to be promoted.
Note that even if you do get promoted, it will not be to a front row position.
Also, we only drop your worst result if you've finished at least 4 races.
2 Sep 22: The first batch of registered riders are now posted on the site. If you think you've registered for the league, take a look to make sure you're on the list. If your club is incorrect, you need to update your details with British Cycling - that's where we get our data from.

Contenders has evolved to try and assist more riders develop in our sport. Once again, thanks to support from the Tour of the Cornfields/Beastway team, all the sessions will be low cost but riders still need to book in advance.
The sessions will be aimed at riders aged who don’t qualify for RSRs yet. RSR riders will be allowed to attend, the sessions are just not aimed at them. Novice juniors are welcome to book in and we will also be taking riders aged from 10.
The sessions are designed for riders in the region to enable them to move up to the next level of competition. They are intensive training activities that enable riders to work with others of a similar standard and identify weaknesses that can be worked on in club training.
Riders can use any bike suitable for riding off-road but a cyclo-cross bike is preferred. We are not looking for any previous experience now so novices are welcome.
There will be limited spaces at all dates so it is recommend that you book in advance using the links provided.
The dates are:
Sun 7th November Youth & U12 Writtle
Sun 21st November Youth & U12 Welwyn Track
Sat 18th December Youth & U12 Ipswich BMX Track
The sessions take 2 - 3 hours and will usually run from 9:30am to 12:00pm unless I let you know otherwise.
Club coaches are welcome to watch or assist – please let Mark Wyer know if you want to come.
27 Oct 21: As you know the sport doesn’t run itself and we are always looking for willing volunteers.
On that note we are running an online cyclo-cross commissaire course on the evenings of 13th and 15th December.
So, if you have thought you would like to become a commissaire at CX please follow this link and register your interest

Following a meeting of the Eastern Committee it has been decided that the Regional Championships / ECXL Round 8 will be open to
riders from the Eastern Region according to their BC Status AND to Eastern league members of other Regions previously regstered to the Eastern League as of Round 4 - 24/10/21.
Riders not from the Eastern Region and not registered to the league as of 24/10/21 are not able to enter this event.
This is to prevent riders choosing to join the league with the sole intention of pre-riding the World Masters Course and not supporting their own Regional Championship events.
Please note that existing league members who ride that are not "Eastern Region" with BC will not be elegible for the Championship placings.
A BC Licence is not required to enter the Regional Championships but all riders must have BC Membership.

9 Oct 20: Sadly, the CC Ashwell Thickthorn Cross has been cancelled due to local Covid advice.
7 Oct 20: We have a new event:
CC Ashwell Thickthorn Cross.
26 Sep 20: After a long and detailed discussion at Thursday's Eastern Cyclo Cross Association committee meeting we have come to the difficult decision to not hold a league competition this season. This decision wasn't taken lightly and it's for a whole variety of reasons that we felt we couldn't promote a league competition this season. Have a look at the committee minutes (to be published shortly) for a more detailed account of the discussions. On the plus side, we do have possibly 6 to 8 events that could take place as standalone events which will be run as normal Eastern League events just without the points and prizes. Standalone events will be promoted on our website and Facebook page. Each standalone event will have a standard league programme which will be announced later but should follow a similar format and timings to the Haughley Park event but with the ladies in the Vet 50's rather than a separate race which will free up time to allow for Covid-19 guidelines. This will not be a permanent change. The Eastern Cyclo Cross Association will provide a standard set of numbers, judging and will pay for comms expenses in return for area levies being paid. No event should make a loss. Races will initially open for current league members (i.e. those that were members last season) and will open to non league members on the weekend before the race. Huge thanks to the organisers that have come forward to run standalone events. We will do everything we can to make those events a success.
19 Sep 20: Results are posted for today's Haughley Park trial event.
13 Sep 20: Due to the ongoing pandemic situation, the 2020-21 league will be different from usual. We're hoping to put on a series of races, but nothing is certain yet. We will not be accepting any new members this season. If you were a member last year, your membership will roll over at no cost. Your age category will automatically be adjuasted if necessary.

10 Sep 19: Message from c:
Thanks to clubs and helpers around the region, the dates for this season’s Contenders Cyclo-Cross training sessions are booked and sorted.
Once again, thanks to support from the Tour of the Cornfields/Beastway team, all the sessions will be free but riders still need to book in advance to guarantee a place.
In addition this year we can offer 10 places per session for Under 12’ for a small fee of £5. This coaching will be run in parallel but as a separate session.
These sessions are designed for youth category riders in the region to enable them to move up to the next level of competition.
They are intensive training sessions that enable riders to work with others of a similar standard and identify weaknesses that can be worked on in club sessions.
For the youth session, riders are expected to be racing Cyclo-Cross regularly and have their own Cyclo-Cross bike.
Riders must be in the Youth (U16 & U14) categories or first Year Juniors. Under 12’s can bring any bike suitable for riding off-road.
There will be limited spaces at all sessions so it is recommend that you book in advance using the links provided.
The dates are:
21st September Welwyn Track,
12th October Writtle University College,
16th November Milton Country Park,
21st December Maglia Rosso.
The sessions take 2 - 3 hours and will usually run from 9:30am to 12:30pm unless I let you know otherwise.
Club coaches are welcome to watch or assist – please let me know if you want to come.
