7 Oct 16: Immediate adjustment to league Points Allocations

A pleasing development that we have seen this year is the continued increase in numbers and popularity of our events. However, as we are all starting to see, this is putting some pressure on the pre entry system with events filling very quickly, especially in the Vet/Women event. At the moment the pre entry system is equal and open for all Male & Female entrants, which means, depending on how organised people are, it is just as possible to have 50 women and 30 men in an event as 30 women and 50 men. However, we (the committee) know there are some discussions which are happening and we are always willing to look at all options to give the best experience and ensure fairness for all - participants, organisers and officials.

We looked at several options to ensure we can accommodate people as fairly as possible and specifically to help league riders still participate and receive league points even when their race is full.

Increasing the overall number of participants further is currently not on the table as many venues are already now at full capacity with Car Parking for 350+ cars, toilets, first aid etc. This will become even more difficult as grass parking areas are lost as the ground surface gets softer. Shorter daylight hours reduce other possibilities of additional races. We looked at reserving spaces within the Vet / Women races but all the options would prove more unfair than the current system and could be detrimental to accommodating unlimited Women participants. We also looked at altering the race times and category combinations but these are set by the AGM and would be very complicated to change mid season.

A League Sub Committee has reviewed all the possible options offered and has come up with a workable interim adjustment to how the League points are allocated to improve fairness across all categories, which will be implemented immediately as of this weeks event.

Amendment - Not applicable to Youth / U12 categories:

In the event of a participant's race category reaching full capacity and closing to entries before the event closing date the participant may then chose to Pre Enter the Senior Open Event. The participant must then turn up on the day and add their name to the reserve list (this can only be done on the day). In the instance that no reserve place becomes available in their category and the rider then participates in the Senior Open Event, under the condition that he/she finishes the race, they may apply to the league co-ordinator to have their average League points applied in their own correct category. This can be done on the day or via Email.

This change applies to all Veteran and Women's categories with immediate effect and will be applied to this coming event with the following exception - that, as the closing date has already passed we will allow riders to enter the Senior event on Sunday and then still apply for average points.

We will continue to monitor the Events through the season and look at all other options at the AGM. All members are welcome to send in comments to the committee, attend meetings or send in proposals for consideration at the AGM.
