EC-CA Youth Squad

The EC-CA runs a youth squad to develop our best riders aged Under 16 and Under 14. 8 riders are selected early in the season. The Youth Squad Manager is experienced senior rider Nathan Miller.

What are the benefits of being a member of the squad?

Squad riders get support from experienced Cyclo-Cross coaches and riders. You can ask for race feedback or advice on equipment or training. There is a discount on TORQ products and financial assistance to enter and travel to the National Championships and some National Trophy events. In addition squad riders get to wear the squad jersey and warm up jackets at races with pride!

How do I get on the Squad?

The squad selections are made after the first 3 or 4 races of the year. We are looking for those riders performing at the top end in league races or that show considerable potential. Squad members will be expected to attend local club training sessions to work on their technique.

What will I be expected to do as a Squad member?

Under 16 squad members are expected to be competing at National Trophy rounds all season and will be expected to enter the National Championships.

Under 14 aged riders will be expected to ride the Ipswich round of the National Trophy and compete at the National Championships.

All youth squad members will be expected to be available for selection for the Inter-Area Championships.

Squad Training Sessions

There will be 2 or 3 squad training sessions run during the course of the season. These will be high intensity sessions based on short sharp racing efforts. These sessions will not be about learning dismounting/remounting/hurdling technique, we expect you to be working on those at your club sessions.

For more information about the youth squad, talk to Nathan or Mark Wyer at race events.
